American Stupidity

NY Times, on the state of Louisiana:
Though nearly 22 percent of the state’s adult residents have no health insurance — one of the highest rates in the nation — pollsters and political experts say voters in the state are overwhelmingly against Mr. Obama’s health care proposals.

Do you suppose this has anything to do with the fact that high school dropout rates in Louisiana approach 30%?

I don't have health insurance. It's called self-insured, aka paying your own bills.

It used to be universal. But no doctor could stay in business charging more than patients are willing to pay.

Enter third party payers.

Third party payers do not insure those who can't afford it, nor do they insure those who are already sick, nor do they insure those who are too selfish or clueless or who like to gamble with good odds. Third party payers also do not care about the children or dependents of the selfish or the clueless or the poor or the sick or the unlucky.

Enter the government, who ought to care.

I can't wait for rhhardin to get in a car accident and miss work for 6 weeks while recovering. Why can't I wait?

Because Americans can't wait for rhhardin to pay his own bills, so we can have such a rugged example of self-reliance to imitate!!!!!!!!

Man, that dude is not only manly, rugged, self-reliant, but f'n rrrrRRRRich!! All of us should work harder!!!

Consider how much money you'd have if you didn't pay premiums.

It's not hard.

Hell, if it hadn't been for the United States government, they'd all be speaking French in Louisiana to this day.

Heck, from the evidence in the picture, he couldn't even afford to get his dog spayed.
