"However the bridge did not make the Washington Department of Transportation's list of "structurally deficient bridges."

I heard on NWCN that an oversized truck taking out part of the overhead truss superstructure was the probable cause of the collapse. That such a simple thing could take it out is a problem but it sounds like the bridge was basically sound.

I agree with you that we're letting our infrastructure deteriorate in the country but that doesn't appear to be a major part of the problem in this case.
